17 weeks

The baby this week is the size of a turnip according to the babycenter.com website. I haven't felt anything yet, but am hoping that I can soon.

I'm finally over the sick time and on to heartburn. I never used to get heartburn and now I just can't avoid it.

A couple nights ago John and I woke up to our dog making these strange noises like he was trying to gasp for air through his nostril. We decided he better stay near us in case he had anymore trouble. Back to bed....nope. Then I got the heartburn and started moaning (I didn't know I was moaning so loud) and John kept asking me what was wrong. I finally took some Tums and tried sleeping again. We agreed we both had horrible nights, but I figure this is only the beginning.

Finnigan has an infection in his ear, but the breathing thing was just something that these smash faced dogs go through - whew!

History

Well, what a day it was January 20, 2009. Our first African American president sworn into office. President Barack Obama.

What an awesome picture of the millions crowding in the mall area and along the streets to get a glimpse of this monumental day. Eyes filled with tears of hope and inspiration.

I was able to watch the inauguration in our school's auditorium and then left to volunteer at an area homeless shelter. I watched some of the parade with the visitors there that were so excited to see the event unfold as much as I. What an inspiring day in history for so many.

Yes we can and yes we will!

Belly pic - 16 weeks

Finally feeling a little better but now am trying to kick my head cold. John took this picture of me and was quite precise about where I should stand so that each picture is exactly in the same spot. I guess we'll see if that really happens.

In other news the cold snap is finally ending and we actually were able to go outside and not cringe today. I really hope that I can vacation on a regular basis somewhere warm someday because this is ridiculous.

According to babycenter.com the baby is the size of an avocado. I would think I would be able to feel an avocado moving around in me, but not yet. Hopefully in a few weeks.

Doc Apt. 2

Well, this is only my second doc appointment, but they certainly made it worth my time. I filled out oodles of paperwork, got 5 viles of blood taken and heard baby f's heatbeat. The doctor put the goo on my belly and hunted for baby. She found it for about 6 beats and had to chase it down to find it again - jackpot, found it for a few more beats and decided baby f has a lot of energy. I told John all about it to which he had to add, "that's my boy." We decided that we are not finding out the sex, but John has this idea (or maybe he just likes to tease me) about it being a boy. I'll tell you what, regardless of what it is, it DOES have HIS energy.

Belly pictures to come soon...by popular demand.

Surprise!

John surprised me for my 30th birthday with a trip to San Francisco. The plan originally was to visit wine country in Napa, but with a baby on the way we made a change in our plans and went south to Monterey and Carmel. San Francisco was awesome and he definitely won the husband of the year award on this one.

For Britt and Erin

The baby has graduated from a lime to a medium sized shrimp. Thought you would like that. ; )

Baby...oh baby!

This past November John and I found out that we were expecting! We were both very excited about the news.

At about six and a half weeks I was having some pain that I wasn't too sure about and probably being a little overly cautious with it being my first baby, but wanted to have it checked out. My doctor decided to do an ultrasound and we found out that we were having not one, but two babies and they were identical. My jaw dropped, John's jaw dropped and we were in a state of haze. We heard their heartbeats and couldn't believe our eyes. The haze lifted the next day when we looked at each other and said, "we're having two!" Crazy.

After a roller coaster ride of another six weeks after our first ultrasound John and I found out that our second baby did not develop after we saw them both on the initial ultrasound. Even though we heard both of their heartbeats the one just wasn't strong enough to make it. God has a plan and I trust that it is the right one for us.

The good news of course is that we are still blessed with another baby that looked strong and healthy at our second ultrasound. We look forward to meeting him/her this summer.

The anticipation of twins was exciting and scary all at the same time, but I did feel a bit of a weight lifted in knowing that we would just be having one baby and that we would have a normal pregnancy and delivery after this.

I am through the first trimester and still feeling a little nausea at times and sleeping has been a little more difficult. Hopefully things will start to get better and I will get that renewal of energy that everyone keeps telling me about.

I hope to keep this updated as regularly as possible and even add a few pictures along the way. Stay tuned
